Please enjoy the videos our teachers have created to share some of the aspects of the Waldorf teaching philosophy that inspire them here along with educational highlights offered at the WISE.  We hope you enjoy watching the videos and that they answer some of your questions about why this school might be the right choice in education for your family.

“Receive the child in reverence, educate the child with love, let the child go forth in freedom.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

At the Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton, we strive to educate the Whole Child; Head, Heart and Hands. Our Early Childhood programs nurture the wonder-filled imaginative world of young children, building a strong base for future learning and development. Art, movement and culture are infused into all academic study. Nature and natural materials are integrated into the learning experience. Our goal is to explore the child’s full potential, while nurturing their self-esteem by encouraging the development of a whole range of additional skills. In this way, a lifelong love of learning is cultivated by nourishing the spirit of curiosity.

The Waldorf Education Society of Edmonton respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Amiskwacîwâskahikan, or Edmonton, on Treaty 6 territory. The land that the Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton sits on was once Métis scrip land. Scrip was given to Métis people in exchange for their land rights. The land of Treaty 6 territory was once a gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples, including the Cree, Blackfoot, Metis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant communities. Our faculty, staff, board and school community commits to working toward reconciliation and decolonization.

The Arrival of the Fairy Babies

We walked around the yard with our jingle bell ribbon wands calling to Lady Spring, to the seeds and the leaves and all the little creatures of the land to wake up and greet us. The melodious sounds of the harp played by our talented Mother Earth (Diana) and the colorful silks gently and wildly blowing in the wind caught our attention and created a celebratory spring-like atmosphere. The children were mesmerised when we found a basket in the sunflower patch under a nest of sunflower stalks. We sang a welcome song until we were all calm and settled and anticipating something mysterious, but unknown. A gift from Mother Earth. We uncovered many sweet, innocent little Fairy Babies and the children all recognised each other's babies when they noticed their symbols. After many exclamations of surprise and awe, they exclaimed "They all look like us, they even have the same colour eyes!" and "I have the same shirt, or pyjamas, or bathing suit" or "I have the same hat, or headband, or pony." And "They're so cuuute." "I love mine, do you love mine?" "I love yours."
