The rich and comprehensive curriculum of Waldorf Education is designed to instill a lifelong love of learning. Our teachers strive to align creative developmental activities with emerging cognitive, emotional, and physical stages of growth. The main subjects – social studies, language arts, science, and mathematics–are taught in Main Lesson blocks of one to two hours per day, with each subject block lasting from four to six weeks. This allows the student to internalize the basic principles of the lesson and deepens their understanding of the subject.

Grades 1–6:

  • Pictorial introduction to the alphabet, writing, reading, spelling, poetry, and drama.
  • Folk and fairy tales, fables, and saint legends.
  • Numbers, basic mathematical processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Nature stories, house building, and gardening.

Grades 7-9:

Science experiments! The study of revolutionary movements! The Renaissance! These are but a small part of the rich experience of the WISE junior high program–challenging academics, within the context of culturally rich, art infused lessons.

Main lesson teachers provide consistency teaching the main lesson blocks each morning, but also specialize in mathematics, sciences, and humanities. Specialty teachers provide specialized instruction in handwork, woodwork, and music (Band!). Program electives change each year, with past/current options including outdoor survival, nutrition/cooking, parkour, jewellery making, archery, fencing, and costuming. Physical education comprised of games, movement, and sports allow children to develop cooperation and self-disipline.
